Sacramento Art Scene

I love supporting local artists. Admiring art filled with culture and meeting the artists makes exploring a new area 20 times more exciting! You'll come to find I have an obsession with street art and love to search for murals. I was thrilled to find out my trip to Sacramento aligned with the Wide Open Walls Art Festival. There were tons of murals going up, events going on lots to see! Luckily these works of art stay up so if you missed the festival you can still explore these beauties anytime you are in the area!

Sacramento Mural

I love location murals, especially while traveling. This is Sacramento. Art. Diversity. Community. This mural is at Sacramento State and each letter was done by a different artist. S.V. Williams, Raphael Delgado, Phil Altstatt, John Horton, Molly Delvin, Micah Crandall-Bear, Lopan4000, Jeremy Stanger, Norman Ayles, Ursula Xanthe Young, & Jose DiGregorio.

In addition to all the local street art you need to check out Second Saturday's Artwalk. Ton of local studios open their doors, have shows, live music and so many chances to mix and mingle with the local artists.

Local Art

We went to an event at Love is a Verb to see Raul's new work. He is an artist sharing pieces of his life mixed with his Mexican culture.

By far one of the coolest things I encountered while in town was "Free Art Fridays". There is an account on Instagram sharing posts from local artists that have created original art and hide the piece around Sacramento. They give clues on location and then whoever finds it, claims it, keeps it and lets the rest of Instagram know it's be found. It's every Friday! I wish I got to a piece on time, but there is always next time!
